Dental Emergency While Visiting Glendale? Emergency Dentist Near the Hilton and Embassy Suites

A toothache, a cracked tooth, or a lost crown never comes at a good time. It feels even worse when you are away from home and do not know a local dentist.

If you are staying in Glendale, help is close. Aghbashian Dental Corp is at 1000 N Central Ave, within a few blocks of the Hilton Los Angeles North/Glendale and the Embassy Suites by Hilton Los Angeles Glendale.

If you need an emergency dentist in Glendale right now, call (818) 873-0938. During office hours, we do our best to see patients in pain the same day. After hours, call us and we will arrange care.

This guide explains what counts as a dental emergency, what to do in the first few minutes, how to find us from your hotel, and what to expect at your visit.

This article is general information, not a diagnosis or medical advice. If you are unsure whether your situation is serious, call us or seek emergency medical care.

What To Do First: A Five-Minute Plan

  1. Call us at (818) 873-0938. Tell us your symptoms, how long they have lasted, and which hotel you are staying in. We will tell you whether to come in right away.
  2. Control pain and swelling safely. Hold a cold compress against your cheek for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever according to the label, if it is safe for you.
  3. Protect the tooth. Avoid chewing on that side. Save any broken piece of tooth, or a crown that has come off.
  4. Gather what you need. Bring your ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of your medications and allergies.
  5. Head to our office. It is a short walk or quick ride from both hotels. If you do not feel well enough to walk, ask the front desk for help arranging a ride.

Is It a Dental Emergency?

Not every dental problem needs an emergency visit, but some should never wait. Here is a quick guide.

What you have What to do
Severe or throbbing toothache, or pain that wakes you at night Call now. Pain that does not ease with over-the-counter medicine needs an exam
A knocked-out adult tooth Call immediately. Every minute counts (see first aid below)
A cracked, broken, or split tooth with pain Call now
Swelling in the gum or face, a pimple-like bump on the gum, or a bad taste Call now. These can be signs of infection
A lost crown or filling Call the same day. The tooth underneath is exposed and can be sensitive or break
Bleeding that will not stop after an extraction or injury Call now
A chipped tooth with no pain Call to be seen soon. It is less urgent, but chips can worsen

Go to an emergency room or call 911 if you have swelling that spreads toward your eye, neck, or under your tongue, trouble breathing or swallowing, a fever with facial swelling, bleeding that does not stop after 15 to 20 minutes of firm pressure, or a head or jaw injury. Call us after you are safe.

First Aid for Common Dental Emergencies

Toothache. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water, and gently floss to remove any trapped food. Use a cold compress on your cheek, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as the label directs. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum, and do not apply heat to a swollen area.

Cracked or broken tooth. Rinse with warm water and apply a cold compress. Keep any broken pieces moist in a clean container and bring them with you. If a sharp edge is cutting your tongue or cheek, cover it with dental wax or sugar-free gum from a pharmacy. Our page on cracked tooth treatment explains how we diagnose and repair cracks.

Knocked-out adult tooth. Time matters. Pick the tooth up by the crown (the chewing surface), not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it gently for a few seconds with milk or saline, and do not scrub it. If you can, place it back in the socket and bite gently on clean gauze. If you cannot, keep it moist in a small cup of milk, not tap water. Get to a dentist as quickly as you can, ideally within about an hour. Do not put a knocked-out baby tooth back in.

Lost crown or filling. Keep the crown and clean it gently. A pharmacy sells over-the-counter dental cement that can temporarily hold it in place, so follow the package directions. Do not use household glue. Avoid chewing on that side until we see you.

Swelling or a bump on the gum. Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek. Do not squeeze or try to drain it. Call us right away, and go to the emergency room if swelling spreads or you have trouble breathing or swallowing.

What Happens at Your Emergency Visit

  1. Check-in and a quick history. We ask about your symptoms, your health, and your medications.
  2. Exam and digital X-rays. We look at the tooth and the area around it to find the cause of the problem.
  3. Pain relief first. We focus on getting you comfortable, using local anesthetic, before anything else.
  4. Your options, explained. We tell you what we found, what your choices are, and what each one costs, before treatment begins.
  5. Treatment. Depending on the cause, that may be a repair or a crown. If the nerve is infected, you may need root canal treatment. If a tooth cannot be saved, we will talk through removal and replacement options. When final treatment needs more than one visit, we protect the tooth in the meantime.
  6. Aftercare and follow-up. You leave with clear instructions, and we can share your records with your home dentist for any follow-up care.

What To Bring

  • A photo ID
  • Your dental insurance card, if you have one
  • A list of your medications, allergies, and medical conditions
  • Any broken tooth piece or crown that came off

Insurance, Payment, and Cost When You Are Traveling

We accept most PPO dental plans, and out-of-area PPO plans often work. Call us and we will check your benefits before your visit. If you do not have insurance, ask about our new-patient exam and X-ray special, and our payment options, including CareCredit® financing. We explain costs before treatment begins, so there are no surprises.

If You Are Flying Home Soon

Tell us your travel dates when you call. Some treatments, such as an extraction or a root canal, can affect how comfortable you feel on a trip. We can plan the timing, protect the tooth with a temporary solution if needed, and help you arrange follow-up with your home dentist.

Not Sure It Is an Emergency?

If your symptoms are mild, such as a small chip without pain, a question about a temporary crown, or a general concern, you can schedule a virtual consult and talk it through, or contact our office. If you have severe pain, swelling, or bleeding, call us instead of booking online.
